On PUBLIC SOCIOLOGY

“I feel really strongly about the importance of public sociology for a few reasons. First, I’m excited about it, I love it, and want to share it with every one. Second, most people don’t even know what it is, which is a shame, because why shouldn’t people know how the society they live in works? Third, so much research is inaccessible to the public whether due to paywalls, gatekeeping, or jargon and this is a problem. The inaccessibility of information leads to ignorace, misinformation, and it stunts ingenuity. And finally, sociology shows us the terrible and the magnificent things about our society. It shows us what we’re doing right and what we can be doing better. Why wouldn’t we want to show that to the world? Really, it’s our responsibility to share it.”

Making The Familiar Strange Podcast

A sociology podcast for non-sociologists.

Every day, we move through the world impacted by the social structures we’ve created.

Sociologists use rigorous scientific research to examine how the social structures you interact with on a daily basis impact your life, possibly in ways you hadn’t thought of.

This is finding the strange in the familiar.

Every episode, Dr. Erin Baker and a co-host who isn’t in the field will be interviewing other sociologists about their work. Keep listening to learn how to Make the Familiar Strange.

Dr. Erin Baker delves into the topic of sociology with her co-hosts and a variety of guest experts in the field of sociology.

WE’RE TAKING A BREAK RIGHT NOW, BUT WE’LL BE BACK WITH SOME GREAT CONTENT!
